Awards

Marwyn Value Investors LP (MVI), the cornerstone fund of the Marwyn alternative asset management group, has been named Best Event Driven Fund, 2010 in three separate award ceremonies.

In April 2010 the industry magazine Hedgeweek voted MVI the Best Event Driven Fund 2010, with readers citing Marwyn’s application of a “unique mix of private equity and hedge fund skills” as instrumental in producing significant returns for the 2009 financial year. Global Fund Media, parent company of Hedgeweek, polled a total of 56,000 readers and 20,000 institutional investors.

MVI was also judged to be the Best Event Driven Fund, 2010, by the magazine HFM Week. A panel of senior industry professionals assessed a combination of quantitative and qualitative strengths in four key areas: performance figures, volatility, risk management and track record. The panel noted that “Marwyn has taken real advantage of the current sea change among small and mid cap UK and European companies”

In January 2011 Marwyn Value Investors LP, Marwyn's cornerstone fund, was awarded the Eurohedge prize for the best Event Driven Fund in 2010. Marwyn received the prestigious award at a ceremony held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London, on 27th January. The third award relating to 2010 from the hedge fund industry marks sustained performance by Marwyn Value Investors. Marwyn Value Investors LP recorded gains of 74% in 2010, up 177% since the fund was launched in November 2005.

In 2010, Marwyn completed six acquisitions, the sale of vocational training business, Melorio plc, to Pearson plc for £120 million, and the listing of film distribution business, Entertainment One Limited on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange. Acquisitions included the purchase of Breedon Holdings Limited (formerly Ennstone plc) from a syndicate including Barclays Ventures and the purchase of Fulcrum Group Holdings Limited from National Grid plc.

James Corsellis, Managing Partner at Marwyn, said: “2010 proved to be an excellent year for Marwyn, its companies and their investors. Our hands on investment approach to executing buy-and build strategies in the public markets has built an impressive track record of consistent returns. We are seeing a high volume of excellent investment opportunities and we are looking forward to working with some top class management teams in 2011.”
